Antigua authorities say the Caribbean nation is certain to enter the UK white list of non-European Union jurisdictions allowed to offer gambling sites to British citizens. All gaming operations based in countries not included in said list, will be banned from advertising in the United Kingdom.

The Department of Culture, Media and Services recently released a roster with gambling licensing jurisdictions that are not part of the European Union but, still, are considered acceptable concerning advertising in Britain. Antigua is not part of this list, although more than 530 gambling websites accessed by UK players operate from there.

Currently, Antigua is one of the most important online gambling licensing jurisdictions and its economy depends greatly on its online gambling industry. A spokesperson for the nation’s government said to the press they are prepared to offer the necessary guarantees so as to be accepted by the UK authorities.

The advertising ban on prohibited jurisdictions in the UK came into effect on September 1. British punters will have less online gambling options but online casinos within the European Union will benefit from the measure.
