Packer to build third Macau casino

James Packer’s company PBL and its partner Melco have announced plans to build a third casino in Macau. The Trinity Casino will be located in the main peninsula area of Macau and is expected to cost more than $767 million. Construction will start this year and will be completed by late 2010.

The companies told the press that the Trinity complex would consist of two towers. One of the buildings will have serviced apartments and the other will house a boutique hotel and a casino with 215 gambling tables, including roulette, blackjack and baccarat, and 500 poker machines.

Antigua confident about entering the UK white list

Antigua authorities say the Caribbean nation is certain to enter the UK white list of non-European Union jurisdictions allowed to offer gambling sites to British citizens. All gaming operations based in countries not included in said list, will be banned from advertising in the United Kingdom.

The Department of Culture, Media and Services recently released a roster with gambling licensing jurisdictions that are not part of the European Union but, still, are considered acceptable concerning advertising in Britain.

No sale for Trump’s Casinos

According to a statement released this week, casino operator Trump Entertainment, which manages three casinos in Atlantic City, did not reach an agreement with potential buyers and decided to end all negotiations to sell itself. The decision brought the company’s shares down 18 percent.

Two years ago, Trump Entertainment came out of bankruptcy and this year in March it hired Merrill Lynch to advise it in financial matters. Even though Donald Trump’s company is no longer considering acquisition proposals, it continues reviewing other strategies.

Latin-American Gambling Associations reunite for the first time

The Latin-American Gambling Association (ALAJA), the Argentinean Chamber of the Gambling Industry (CAIJA) and the Latin-American Gambling fair (SAGGE) have announced their first encounter with the purpose of evaluating the industry and discuss the path that it will follow in the next years.

The event, named “First Meeting of Latin American Gambling Associations” by its organizers, will take place in the city of Buenos Aires, Argentina, on October 5th, this year.
